Minda Gordon, a former school teacher, is a passionate, motivated, and enterprising woman. In 1980, soon after the birth of her son, Nathanael, she and her husband, Carl, ventured into the women's clothing retail business. This was a field she knew nothing about yet she had two advantages: One, she has a fondness for beautiful things; and two, she has an eye for things exquisite and elegant. Not one to balk at a challenge, she threw herself into learning the rudiments of the trade.
Minda has a heart for the less privileged. The poor living conditions she had seen in the Philippines, her country of birth, stirred in her a desire to help in any way she could. Minda opened her boutique with the primary purpose of supporting worthy, life-affirming causes. Through the years the Gordons have directed a significant portion of their business profits to helping the needy.
The boutique features mostly natural-fiber garments and art-to-wear fashions, as well as accessories, with a focus on women ages 30 and up. It offers a unique combination of merchandise from the simple elegance of the classic look to the wearable art of hand-stamped, hand-painted, or embroidered attire.
Minda has traveled extensively in other countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, India, Nepal, and South America, constantly looking for the most interesting and unusual pieces. In the early years, she showcased her discoveries from these places, lending a unique, ethnic accent to her items. Now she concentrates on clothing and accessories made in the U.S.

In 2004, Charlottesville was ranked the best place to live in the United States in the book Cities Ranked and Rated by Bert Sperling and Peter Sander. Sperling and Sander ranked the cities based on cost of living, climate, and quality of life. The links below are just a few we like. |

After your hearty meal, a "taste" of the past lingers while you tour through the oldest sections of the Tavern. |
